What the extension does
Tab Audio Recorder records audio from the browser tab where you start recording. It lets you play recordings, review their waveforms, adjust cut points, and export audio tracks. It does not use your microphone.
Information processed on your device
The extension processes the audio you choose to record, including any personal information present in that audio. It stores recordings in the extension's local browser storage, together with a generated recording identifier, recording date, format, duration or sample rate, size, and completion state. It also stores cut points, appearance preferences, and silence-stop settings locally. Waveform and quiet-gap analysis run on your device.
The current tab identifier is used to start capture. The extension does not maintain browsing history or store source page URLs, page text, cookies, or account credentials. It does not require an account with us.
Transmission and sharing
The extension does not upload recordings or these settings to us or to third-party services. It contains no advertising, analytics, tracking, or remote AI processing. Its audio-processing library is bundled with the extension and runs locally. We do not sell recorded data or use it for advertising, credit decisions, or purposes unrelated to recording and editing audio.
When you download a recording or authorize an export folder, files are saved where you choose. If you choose a folder synchronized by another application or service, that application's own synchronization and privacy rules apply.
Permissions
- tabCapture: captures the audio of the tab you select by starting a recording from the toolbar popup.
- offscreen: keeps the recording engine running after the popup closes and supports local audio processing.
- unlimitedStorage: supports larger recordings in browser-managed local storage. It does not grant access to arbitrary folders or guarantee unlimited disk space.
For track export, Chrome asks you to choose a folder and authorize writing to it. This folder access is used for the export you request.
Retention, control and security
You can stop recording at any time or enable automatic stopping after continuous silence. You can delete recordings in the recording library, or use Reset to discard the current completed recording. Deleted recordings and their cut points are removed from extension storage; previously exported copies remain in the folders where you saved them.
Local recordings are kept until you delete them, remove the extension, clear its data, or lose the browser profile. Export anything you want to keep. The extension uses browser-managed storage but does not add password protection or its own encryption to recordings or exported files. Protect access to your device and browser profile.
Limited use
Data handled through Chrome APIs is used only for the recording and editing features described here. Our use of that data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
